Determining Skin Exposure

Say we have a DAP reading of 500 Rcm2. The patient was imaged at 100 cm, there was a 10cm gap between the patient and the image receptor, the patient is 16 inches thick and the FOV is 12".

Before showing how we can calculate the exposed area of the patient, we have to convert all the units to centimeters.

There are 2.54 cm per inch, so the patient is 16" x 2.54cm/inch or 41 cm and the FOV is 12" x 2.54cm/inch or 30.5cm.
