* Regulation 861 under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act names several organ or tissue groups that must be included in the Effective Dose calculation, leaving one "free" other organ that must be chosen to complete the calculation. For the purposes of this calculator, a miscellaneous body trunk organ has been chosen. The original version of this calculator treated the head as this organ but was an overestimation of the radiation sensitivity of that area. Head sensitivity IN THIS EFFECTIVE DOSE MODEL is accounted for by the red bone marrow (RBM) and bone fractons in the head and other unshielded areas. Other effective dose models take greater account of exposure to the head due to slight brain and salivary gland sensitivity and these are are likely more accurate.
