Reduction of Radiation Risks - Patient
Radiation risks and dose reduction are described at length elsewhere in this website but in review:
- Minimize the patient to image receptor distance (reduce geometric magnification),
- Use patient gonadal protection whenever it does not interfere with the procedure,
- Use the minimum dose setting that accomplishes Operator imaging objectives,
- Use Last Image Hold (LIH) and pulsed fluoroscopy when possible,
- Minimize the time spent on magnified views - these tend to increase the intensity of the radiation beam to the patient,
- Collimate the beam to the region of interest
- Minimize fluoroscopy time, and the number of digital spots acquired.
