Artifacts (Click the images to see enlarged versions):
Deodorant Artifact
The patient has heavy deposits of deodorant under his arms, mimicing pathology on the axilla. (January 24, 2002)
Focal Spot
Focal spot size and tube power affects image resolution. Lower mA generally results in better resolution, but prolongs exposure time. Unsharpness due to patient movement can result.
Moire Patterns
The lines per cm of stationary grids must not be too close to the CR sample frequency, otherwise beat or moire patterns will appear.
Grid Cutoff
The FFD has been set outside the grid focus distance causing classic grid cut off. There is also a dirt artifact on the CR screen.
Beam Obstructions
An obstruction artifact is blurry near the tube head and sharper near the image receptor. Also note darkening around the edges due to edge enhancement setting.
