X-ray Safety: STTARR microCT and Cabinet Operators

∀ Personal Dosimetry in the STTARR Environment:

Radiation dosimeters are issued to meet the regulatory requirements set by the CNSC (for nuclear energy workers) or the Ministry of Labour (for x-ray). Each regulator stipulates how their dosimeters must be worn.

Because STTARR is a blended research environment where both nuclear and x-ray sources are present - different x-ray workers may receive different types of dosimeters and receive different instructions on how and where these dosimeters must be worn. This is complicated and the requirements are largely set on a case-by-case basis. Your specific requirements will be discussed with you by your manager.

When dosimeters are issued to measure x-ray dose for any of the above equipment, one will be issued to measure body dose. The Body Dosimeter is worn clipped to clothing between the waist and the chest. If for any reason, personal protective equipment like a lead apron must be worn, the body dosimeter must be worn underneath it so it can measure the radiation passing through the apron and into the trunk of the workers body.
