Safety:
Reduction of Radiation Risks - Patient


Radiation risks are described at length elsewhere in this website but to refresh on it:
  • Minimize the patient to image receptor distance (reduce geometric magnification),
  • Use patient gonadal protection whenever it does not interfere with the procedure,
  • Use the minimum dose setting that accomplishes Operator imaging objectives,
  • Use Last Image Hold (LIH) and pulsed fluoroscopy when possible,
  • Minimize the time spent on magnified views - these increase the intensity of the radiation beam to the patient,
  • Make certain the spacer cone on the tube head is in place, this ensures the patient does not get to close to the radiation source,
